Any ideas?

Yesterday, Brylee started sneezing and then her nose started running all the time. I was thinking that maybe she had allergies, but I was not sure. We have considered ourselves pretty lucky because she has not been sick since she was born. We are usually pretty cautious in making sure that the house is sanatized, so she can't pick up germs and then come to find out her runny nose and sneezing has nothing to do with allergies!! She has a cold and is not feeling very well. I am sure that she picked it up from me because I have been sick since Tuesday, but I am just wondering how we made it all through the winter and now she is sick? So, I have never dealt with a sick infant and we are going to try and get into the doctor tomorrow, but for now I am not sure what to do. She still is sleeping and eating well, but she is a little bit grumpy. I feel blessed because even though she is a little bit grumpy, she is still being a pretty good baby. Brylee and I spent the day cuddling and it has been kind of fun. She normally is not a big cuddler, so today it has been fun to have her snuggle up and sleep. If anyone has some suggestions, please feel free to share.

You need to go get some saline for her nose at the grocery store. This stuff will be her worst and best friend. You should squirt this in her nose before you use the sucker since it helps losen and moisten. You can't use any medicine except tylenol and my doctor refuses to give us anything by prescription even. Running the shower on hottest for steam and sitting with her in the bathroom with the door shut before bed works well too. Don't forget the vaporizer and you could also put some vicks ointment on her feet before her jammies are on. Good luck!

Amber above had some excellent suggestions. My doctor also wouldn't give Thacker any meds, and said they're not permitted to prescribe anything for a cold. She said the virus jsut needs to run it's typical 2 week course and build up immunities and the baby will be fine soon. We used the vaporizer and had lots of cuddle time too, which I loved! Enjoy it, they usually don't sit still for that long!

But on another note, I'm so glad you posted on our blog. I've been kind of blogged out lately, but I still check others at random times, so I'll be sure to check your guys'. This is such a great way to keep in touch! It makes me feel so much closer to people even though we're so far away, I love it!

Yep, I second the saline and the "booger getter." Poor Olivia cries when she sees that blue bulb syringe, but it helps her breathe that I have to torture her a little in order for her to feel better. And those saline drops are the best. Don't waste your money on the "Little Noses" brand... I bought the generic adult brand when I couldn't find the Little Noses and it actually was tons cheaper and I think it works better. Just a squirt or two up each nostril.

Keep some infant Tylenol on hand, and a thermometer. Watch for a fever, and treat with a little Tylenol.

Watch to see if she pulls at her ears... Olivia had a stuffy nose and little cough when she got an ear infection. They will give prescriptions for that, so watch it and call your doc if you notice it!

Good luck, and sorry to hear she's sick!

Hey Kaylee got RSV when she was about 4 months old and we used a cold mist humidifier and baby vicks along with all the other suggestions. I also increased her fluid intake and did juice mixed with water and gave her as much as she would drink.

The only good thing about sick kiddos is that they do cuddle...

I second the humidifier and the hot shower.

Sick babies are the worst. You feel so bad for them, and so helpless. I hope she gets better, I would have thought allergies too :( She is adorable.

Hey, a bunch of us are going to get together on Friday night... for a girls' night (babies can come if you need to bring her). Wanna come? We're trying to get a hold of everyone without leaving all the info on the blogs (too many crazy people out there).

I will send you a text with the info in case you want to come. I wanna see you! I hope you can come.

Hi Melissa! It's Megan Beckstrom from Spanish Fork (we were in YW together about 4 years ago--wow it's been a while.) I found your blog through Lyndsey Jackson and I've enjoyed catching up on your family. Congrats on a cute baby girl! You're very lucky she's never been sick because this winter my boys have had a recurring stomach flu--yuck!! If you'd like to see our blog e-mail me and I'll send you an invite (it's private because Ryan's paranoid!)
